Isn't it interesting that the two biggest players in the IT and Telephony world both named their collaboration engine TEAMS? Long live capitalism. If you're interested in Microsoft's strategy, you can't help but want to know how Cisco intends to address the opportunity. First things first, Cisco owns the worldwide market of UC. Between Cisco Call Manager, Cisco HCS, and Broadsoft, Cisco owns 64% of the market and doesn't have a single competitive platform out there with more than 5% market share.


According to Cisco, Webex Teams is an app for continuous teamwork where employees can move work forward in secure work spaces where everyone can contribute anytime with messaging, file sharing, white boarding, video meetings, calling, and more. Sound familiar? Cisco's advantage is in their ecosystem of 20,000 sales reps, consultants, and VARs, and of course, their enormous customer base. Like Microsoft, they will also be a force to be reckoned with, but unlike Microsoft, Cisco is driving customer behavior and migration through a program called Flex. Flex is what enables existing Cisco customers to migrate from premise to cloud. Flex is based on Broadcloud, which is also limited in terms of features and functionality as compared to the traditional Broadsoft platform.
